CMP Ramsgate Royal Harbour
Grade II* Listed
Ramsgate, Kent
Client
Thanet District Council
CLTH was commissioned to produce a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for Ramsgate Royal Harbour, a Grade II* designated asset in its own right, with a number of other structures with their own listing. It is the largest conservation character area in the Ramsgate Conservation Area.
The intention of the CMP is to capture the story of the harbour, the part this plays in its heritage, as well as the materials and the environment that impact its condition at this point in history. It sets a baseline for conservation of the two hundred and seventy four year old Grade II* designated site and provides information that sub-contractors can refer to improve their understanding of the site prior to undertaking any future repairs and maintenance. There are eight harbour buildings or structures with their own designations and these too are included in the CMP to provide for consistent care of all of the harbour assets, within a hierarchy of significance.
The Clock House - Grade II*
The Obelisk - Grade II
Magazine Store - Grade II
Jacob’s Ladder - Grade II
Home for Smack Boy’s - Grade II
Sailor’s Home and Mission Church - Grade II

The CMP covers the entirety of the Royal Harbour bound by the pier arms including Jacob’s Ladder, the Pier Yard, Military Road, the Military Road arches and the balustrade to West Cliff Arcade, the roadway above.
