The Circle Library, Sutton
- London Borough of Sutton
A striking modern landmark in a pre-war parade of suburban shops was funded by the Big Lottery and the sale of adjacent land. Intensive consultation led to the library including a social and visual focus for the community with a lounge, meeting room, multi-purpose room and kitchen. The exterior of dark mauve brick is punctuated playfully with coloured glazed bricks. A large ‘shop window’ on the street offers welcoming views into the double-height interior, the courtyard and community garden beyond.
“I absolutely love the building, it has a great feel; as soon as I walked in, I was part of it. I am very grateful that I was invited to be a part of the project from the beginning”. Jean Crossby, Chair of Circle Residents Association
